Pause before you respond
Someone speaks. You interpret quickly. You respond to what you heard.
And you miss the real point.
Instead of replying straight away, paraphrase what they said in your own words. Reflect back how the situation affected them.
And then… Pause.
Silence invites correction. And it invites clarity.
They’ll expand. They’ll go deeper. They’ll say what they actually mean.
And now when you speak, you’re responding to the real issue.
So next time you feel ready to answer… Pause. Encourage them to keep talking. And only then, give your response.
