Next time you book a meeting, clearly state the objective.
What’s the actual point of you all getting together? What are you hoping to achieve?
Working out your objective is easy. Complete this sentence:
“When everyone leaves the meeting, I want them to…”
Summarise your objective in just one short sentence. And then share it with everyone (as well as the agenda) before you meet.
If everyone knows the objective, they can prepare for your meeting beforehand. And when they attend, they’re more likely to stay on-topic.
In short, your meetings will be more effective if everyone knows the objective. Even for your most basic and mundane get-togethers.
And in a world of far-too-many-meetings, we could all do with more effective meetings 😊
