Open-ended questions are ones that can’t be answered with “Yes” or “No”.
They don’t allow people to get out of answering. You’re more likely to get an open, honest response.
👉 “Is there anything bothering you?” should be “What’s bothering you?”
👉 “Did something cause this to happen?” should be “What caused this to happen?”
👉 “You feeling better now?” should be “How are you feeling now?”
Closed questions – the opposite of open-ended ones – make it easy for people to cop out of answering. It’s easy to not say what they really think.
If you want to uncover the truth, ask open-ended questions.
And then shut up and listen.
