Get the most influential person onboard

Start by telling everyone the target outcome of your meeting. The reason why you’re all there. What you’re hoping to achieve.

Then, turn to the most influential person in the room (often the most senior). 

Say that you really want to keep the meeting on track. You really want to achieve the target outcome. 

Will they help you to do this?

Assuming they say yes, you now have their public support to keep the meeting on track.
