Let them get all their thoughts and ideas out. Let them run out of things to say.
Only then should you respond. Only then should you tell them how you might have a different opinion. Only then should you explain where you’re coming from.
We’re often desperate to get our point-of-view across.
The more you let them talk, the more likely they’ll evolve their thinking to adjust their viewpoint.
And the more they talk, the more time and information you have to formulate the best possible response.
They’ll feel good about you listening to them. And you’ll increase the chances of getting an outcome that works for you both.
